Edward Meer Update

Who is Edward Meer? That is exactly what I asked myself when I saw his email in my box. I read the email and then searched WMD's archives to find out just what set him off so much to send this:
Matt Hurley,

There was more than just the war that I was going to run on and since you didn't call or email me you don't know what your talking about. I am a great American ,a war hero ,and I am respected by men that did more for this country than you can even imagine. I was running for office cause the people in DC were acting like Ass'. We need that new V-hauled truck you know the one that can take a hit from an IED and the crew will live. We needed them last year but instead of finding a way to get more made faster Boehner did nothing. We give our boys a gun that shoots a .223 round its a .22 size slug, and the bad guys use something close to a 30/06 its allot bigger and goes way farther. What has he done to help the troops? China made M14's and not everyone has one. What about the guys in the corps that started the war without body armor? What did he do to make sure that didn't ever happen again? Or the guys that have family buying stuff for them that should be issued gear? Do you even care about that? The war sucks I have 30 friends over there right now and its not ever an easy job, but it helps to have the gear you need to survive this hell hole. And yes we are obligated to be there now. we made a promise to those people and its time for us to keep that promise to both the people of Iraq and to the men and women who we send over there. But hey if you'd like to have Mr. Boehner tell my friend's kids why their father is not going to be coming home because he had make shift armor on him Humvee and it rolled and killed him them by all means lets hear what he has to say. I was running cause Mr. Boehner has not done enough. I'm pissed off mad at what I see going on and so should you. I do have a plan for Iraq and I would have done my best to see to it, but that not going to happen cause the board of elections jacked up my paperwork. Now if you want to post on your blog something I said after I was woken up after working a 12 hour night. Yes I have a real job where I work very hard. Then fine but don't talk smack about me when you do not have the balls to talk to me in person. You might have found I had 3 plans to bring jobs into the district. You might have found out more about me as a person and who stand by me. Yes I'm calling you out. You want to know where I stand for then call me and we can talk.

Edward Meer
Okay...so what did I say that ticked this guy off? Well, here it is...
Now, let's mention the only Republican to seek one of these seats...
Edward Meer, a press operator in Hamilton, is collecting signatures to run for Boehner's seat. He didn't seek endorsement, he said, because he didn't know about it.

Meer still plans to run, though, mainly focusing on the war in Iraq.

"The reason I'm running is mainly because I have friends in Iraq and stuff and there's a lot of things going on that no one knows about because they don't even talk about it," he said.
Taking on Republican Leader, my Congressman and a Great American -- John Boehner -- as a Republican is a pretty tall order. And I'm not real sure what Meer's position on Iraq is...is he running because he thinks Boehner is wrong on the war? If so, he is sadly mistaken if he thinks he will win on the issue.
Now, it is worth noting that the Meer quote comes from the Hamilton Journal-News report cited in the piece.

Mr. Meer, I don't "owe" you anything. Allow me to introduce you to the First Amendment...you know...the one where I have Freedom of Speech...and stuff. If you are running for office, I don't have to call you. In fact, how would I have called you? Your contact information wasn't included. A Google search didn't reveal anything.

My advice to any aspiring politician dealing with a blogger is to fire off a ticked off email because that ALWAYS gets the blogger on your side... Don't bother trying to be polite, just let 'er rip! Nothing gets a blogger on your side quicker than an email laced with verbal flamethrowing... And voters really like that approach too...

Dude...get some sleep...you are working too hard.

Otherwise, %&$# off...

UPDATE: Clarification: My issue with this guy is not his service -- which is admirable and honorable -- it is his temperament. I have no idea what this guy's problem is, as I don't think what I wrote in the first piece was inflammatory. And he is continuing to use the flamethrower instead of getting to whatever it is that he wants from me. At any rate, I am seriously thinking that I don't care all that much about whatever it is that he wants...but I'm hoping that he figures out that firing off nastygrams is not the way to solve his issues.
