State Senate President Harris Endorses Schuring

This just in...
Bill Harris (R-Ashland), president of the Ohio State Senate, today officially added his name to the growing list of Kirk Schuring supporters.

“I endorse him not only as the President of the Ohio Senate, but as a future constituent,” Harris said.

Bill Harris has been president of the Ohio Senate since 2005. A 23-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served in both the Korean War and as a counterintelligence officer in Vietnam, earning the rank of Major and numerous decorations for valor and outstanding service, including two Bronze Star awards and the Vietnam Medal of Honor First Class. In 1981, he moved his family to Ashland, Ohio, where he founded and operated a successful General Motors franchise dealership, Bill Harris Chevrolet. He retired from the business in 1995, one year after his election to the Ohio House, in order to focus full-time on his legislative work. His sons continue to run the business in his stead.

Harris and Schuring have had nearly parallel careers in the Ohio General Assembly. Schuring was a freshman member of the Ohio House when Harris was first elected in 1994. In 2000, when Harris was appointed to the Ohio Senate, Schuring wasn’t far behind, earning his seat in the state Senate in 2002.

“Kirk Schuring is the consummate public servant,” Harris said. “As someone who has had the opportunity to work with him for more than 14 years, I can attest that while others may spend their time looking for the next headline, Kirk has been extremely effective in bringing good change for Ohio because he listens well, deals fair, works hard and no matter what the issue, he will always put his constituents first. That is just the brand of leadership we need fighting for us in Washington.”

“I’m very honored to have Senator Harris’s endorsement. He is an outstanding leader who throughout his life has had to evaluate the character and values of those he has led. I appreciate the confidence he has in my ability to represent the 16th Congressional District,” Schuring said.
