Boehner & McConnell: GOP United Behind McCain for President

This just in...
WASHINGTON, DC – House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) today reaffirmed their support for Senator John McCain’s (R-AZ) bid for President of the United States. Boehner and McConnell released the following statement:

“Republicans in Congress are united behind Senator John McCain for President of the United States. Yesterday’s results prove once again that voters share the same values that have guided McCain during his distinguished career in public service, including his opposition to wasteful Washington spending and his commitment to keeping America strong and secure.

“Americans are ready for a candidate who will eliminate wasteful Washington spending and balance the budget without raising taxes. They’re ready for a candidate who is committed to victory in the war on terror -- one who won’t accept defeat. And they’re ready for a candidate who will make sure unelected judges aren’t legislating from the bench. John McCain is that candidate, and he is ready to wage an aggressive and spirited campaign that contrasts his positive vision for America with Democrats’ agenda of higher taxes, bigger government, and weakened national security.

“Senator McCain has the character, integrity, and can-do attitude that Americans are looking for in a President. In an era of intense partisanship and crass cynicism, he has the optimism and faith in America that will inspire voters to rally to his side. John McCain will make an excellent President of the United States.”
