Dann Update: So...What Have I Missed?

My young padawan is growing stronger in the ways of The Force, but she is not a Jedi yet...

So...What have I missed?

Tons of developments in the continuing saga that is Ohio's Eliot Spitzer:

  • The Greene County Young Republicans have heard that Marc Dann might resign today. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think that is going to happen today. Although, the Dancing Snoopy's are still stretching their legs, so who knows...

  • SOBer The Boring Made Dull says, "He’s starting to make even Bob Taft look competent." Yup...and that is saying something. Particularly since there wasn't a louder "culture of corruption" voice than Dann's loud mouth...

  • Dann's hometown paper has been lots of fun this week. Here the Youngstown Vindicator says, "Reports show Dann was aware of Gutierrez’s history of troubles." Which mean Dann knew exactly who he was hiring...

  • Also from the Vindicator, they say that Marc Dann has been a "black eye" for the region. I would add that he has been a black eye for the entire state too...

  • Did Anthony Gutierrez fall asleep behind the wheel after having met with the complainant after having arranged a meeting with the woman a whole month after the pajama party at Dann's place? Maintenance reports and Tribune-Chronicle say yes. Question: Was Gutierrez drunk? And why was Gutierrez driving a state vehicle to a meeting with a woman he was to apply pressure on over his misdeeds? Is that a state function?

  • The Canton Repository says, "Dann has selective support for openness." I don't think they are referring to the woman's pants... Again, Dann was one of the loudest voices for government records access and accountability; yet when he's on the hotseat, the rules change. Whodda thunk it?

  • Back to the Vindicator which asks a whole bunch of questions including this one: "How was Dann involved in fiasco?" What did he know and when did he know it?

  • I thought I saw somewhere that the feds are starting to ask questions and they actually were able to recover the emails and text messages at the heart of Dann's involvement in this fiasco. Personally, I have no beef with Espy and I think he would have run a thorough investigation even if he is looking at his boss and other fellow Democrats.

There might be a lesson in that last paragraph for our good friend Josh Sweigart, the intrepid reporter for Cox Newspapers and his friends in the Butler County Democratic Party...but that is a whole different story...and we'll be getting to that soon.

Speaking of Cox Newspapers, aside from the Dayton Daily News, can you find a Marc Dann story in ANY of the local papers run by that outfit? I saw a copy of the Fairfield Echo with the top story being about that Canadian guy who offed himself a county or two over...I didn't see Marc Dann on the front page anywhere...maybe they buried the story somewhere.....

Anyway, my good friend Ben Keeler asked for Marc Dann commentary and I was more than happy to provide it... :)

UPDATE 1: Rob from the WSU College Republicans writes in to say that he has a post from a Dann office insider. Also, be sure to check out their poll (in the left sidebar) on what Marc Dann's next gig ought to be...

UPDATE 2: Charges are being filed... WFMJ in Youngstown has the story here.
