WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Michael Turner (OH-03) released the following statement tonight upon the capture of the fugitive Marine Corporal Cesar Laurean, wanted for the murder of Marine Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach:UPDATE 3: Alliance member Gribbit had this news a couple of hours ahead of me...
“Our entire nation grieved with the Lauterbach family at the tragic loss of Maria and her unborn child. With Cesar Laurean’s capture, the Lauterbach family will now begin to get the answers they have been seeking, and the justice Maria deserves. I personally believe that America 's Most Wanted contributed a public service in highlighting the pursuit and calling for the capture of Cesar Laurean. Now our focus as a community and a nation must be on achieving justice for Maria and determining what can be done in the future to provide protection for other women in the military.”
Congressman Turner, who represents Vandalia , Ohio , the hometown of the Lauterbach family, has met with family members since attending the funeral of Maria Lauterbach in February. On March 11, 2008, Congressman Turner transmitted 29 questions to General James T. Conway, Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps on behalf of the Lauterbach family about the handling of the murder and rape investigation by Marine officials. In a letter dated March 31, 2008, Lieutenant General R. S. Kramlich, Director of Marine Corps Staff, submitted responses to Congressman Turner’s letter.
