Strickland Concurs with Most WMD Readers: Dann Must Go

Well, the poll closed a couple of hours ago and 83% of WMD readers who voted said that the governor should ask for Marc Dann's resignation. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, that appears to have happened.
Gov. Ted Strickland and other Democratic leaders on Monday called on scandal-scarred Attorney General Marc Dann to resign.

Strickland, Sen. Sherrod Brown, Dann's fellow Democratic state officeholders and all Democratic state legislators sent Dann a letter imploring him to step down.
...
“The work of the Office of the Attorney General matters more, and is far more important, than any one person,” the letter said. “In many, many cases it is all that stands between the people and the powerful. Sadly, we no longer have even the most remote hope that you can continue to effectively serve as Attorney General and that is why we are asking for your resignation.”
By calling for the resignation now, Ohio Democrats get to show some class that Ohio Republicans failed to do when the shoe was on the other foot... Although, has Chris Redfern weighed in yet? Has there been an official statement from the state party yet?

If Dann resigns now, we'll see a special election in November...and if I am not mistaken, that means Republicans just MIGHT have a shot at regaining an office they should never have lost in the first place. Someone should find out if we have a Fred Dailey-ish candidate that we can run.....because nothing says, "That liberal Democrat should never have been elected in the first place -- and wouldn't have if the Ohio Republican Party had gotten its act together -- quite like a good cowboy story...or something.

Anyway...while we're on the subject...you can put me down as being "against" any move by Ohio Republicans to impeach Marc Dann. Why? Because you couldn't find these guys with a search warrant when Bob Taft committed an actual crime, partisanship is clearly the only reason why they would be interested now. If Democrats are serious about ending the so-called "Culture of Corruption", let them lead that charge against one of their own. Let's see if they have the intestinal fortitude to do what Republicans couldn't. My money is on them not doing it.

Do I think Marc Dann ought to resign? Actually, I think Marc Dann ought to be fired. That would send a much stronger message, but most of the clowns we have representing us in Columbus don't have the stones for it.
