Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland and Republican legislative leaders will fight an effort by payday lenders to repeal restrictive caps on the short-term loans they offer.OK, I have mixed feelings on this one. Payday lending is a scam. It does take advantage of desperate people. However, where does it say we should protect people from taking bad deals? Isn't that what reading the contract is about? I mean, instead of cozying up to T Shirt Ted, why not seek to educate people about payday lending and the scam that it is, and not join some group and cozy up to liberals to take away the right to be stupid? I mean, making bad choices is part of the price we pay for freedom. If we aren't allowed to screw up, then how will we learn sometimes.
Strickland, Senate President Bill Harris and Speaker Jon Husted will serve as honorary co-chairs of a campaign fighting the repeal of Ohio’s new payday lending law. The law restricts annual interest on such loans to 28 percent, versus the 391 percent charged today, and limits consumers to receiving four such loans a year.
However, this is not the worst "partnership" between Harris, Husted, and T Shirt Ted. There was the passing of Strickland's budget (which had some bad spending in it), there was Strickland's joke of an energy bill, as well as his bloated "stimulus" bill which will cost more and do more to stimulate government employment than the private sector. Also, they joined hands and sang "Kumbahyah" with Teddy and the libs on something called the Clean Ohio Bond issue.
Leadership like this shows a lack of will, not the presence of will. If you are willing to screw over the consumers (energy bill, which raises rates), screw the economy, all in the name of getting good "bipartisanship" stories from the MSM written about you, you are selling out Republican and conservative principles. Husted is a sleazeball, and Harris has shown a propensity to waffle when it counts.
Many of us want the Ohio Republican party to be on the offensive, to you know, be like a real opposition party. However, as long as the leadership treats these guys like royalty and has the portraits hanging in places of honor to be worshipped, Joe Conservative out here in the hinterland (SW Ohio, where all the conservatives who make possible Republican victories live)is not going to want to pony up dollars or get behind a party more concerned with manhugging photo ops and playing nice nice than about STANDING UP FOR CONSERVATIVE AND REPUBLICAN PRINCIPLES.
Husted is being bantied about for going against Brunner for Sec. of State. Wow, one self-serving, self-worshipping synchopant for another. Gee, there's a real choice. Kevin DeWine, find someone else off the bench. Husted is a non-starter for many of us out here, who have watched him betray us time and again. You all at the ORP need to quit rewarding these guys and instead find leadership in the Gen. Assembly who actually represent what most of us in the electorate of the ORP believe. Otherwise, that big tent you all are building on our backs will be empty, with just Bobby Bennett, Husted, K. DeWine, M. DeWine, and the office staff hanging out with bluestaters who won't vote for you anyway.
