The Tragedy At Cincinnati Christian

As one who knows the tragedy of losing a small one, http://www.findmissingkids.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=880, I can fully appreciate the depth of anger and emotion the community is feeling right now. And, having just suffered through a reliving of those tragic events of 12 years ago, by testifying at a parole board hearing in Columbus, our family sends out our deepest condolences and sympathies to that family who is under a hugh media microscope and to those of my school, Cincinnati Christian.

When a baby dies, there are many different expressions that can come your way. Most of the time, I am sorry for your loss is good enough and is appreciated. Also, it takes away your temptation to knee jerk things and think things through about how easy it is to pass judgement on those when we have never experienced that type of thing and have no concept of how crushing and bruising it is.

There will be bandied about new legislation that makes it a crime to leave a child under five in a car. I am sure that it will be taken up quite quickly when the Senate returns to session. I know that my Senator, the Honorable Gary Cates reads this blog and I want it known that we should really take a long and hard look at what would be appropriate in these situations.

For as long as man has lived on the earth, there will always be instances where terrible mistakes and tragedies occur, that is just part of the human existence. My only point in all of this is that perhaps we should really pray for these folks and increase our awareness. A jail cell is just one alternative.

In our case, we have tried to find reason in what happened to our family and quite simply, there is none. What there is an awareness on our part to be protective, perhaps overly so, of our children. There is also an awareness to cherish our family and to be thankful for the many blessings we do have.

I am so proud of my daughter, who despite many battles over the years has turned out to be a mature, caring mother who really loves her children and takes every precaution she can to protect them.
