Mt. Vernon, OH – Will this be the week in which Rep. Zack Space votes for the 18th Congressional District? Or will he continue siding with Barack Obama and U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi?
Gas prices are creeping back up in the wake of Hurricane Ike that destroyed a number of oil and natural gas production platforms in the Gulf Coast. The federal government will release more than 300,000 barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to ease the supply crunch. Despite the clear need for more American oil and natural gas, Space and his liberal allies continue to block a vote on a comprehensive energy strategy in the U.S. House of Representatives.
"Hurricane Ike once again shows us how critical it is to increase our ability to create and distribute American energy instead of relying on a handful of Gulf Coast production facilities and foreign suppliers," said 18th Congressional District candidate Fred Dailey. "We need a comprehensive approach to tackle this energy crisis or the entire nation will continue to brace itself for financial hardship every time Mother Nature hits our coasts."
This week, Speaker Pelosi is expected to bring to the House another "no energy" energy bill that, as a Washington, D.C., publication noted this morning, could be just another "elaborate exercise to give [Democratic lawmakers] a heaping dose of political cover." (Roll Call, Energy: Deal or Dry Hole, Sept. 15, 2008) Last month, another Washington, D.C., publication called Pelosi and Obama on their "intentional strategy in which Pelosi takes the heat on energy policy, while behind the scenes she's encouraging vulnerable Democrats to express their independence if it helps them politically."
