Tin Ear Congress Gets a Raise

Congress has an amazing knack for looking at a situation and doing the absolutely worst thing that they can think of just to say that they are doing something.

Rasmussen Reports has a survey of likely voters that found 9% of Americans give Congress good or excellent ratings, while 54% give the legislature poor marks. Only 2% think Congress is doing an excellent job.

What does Congress do? Naturally, they give themselves a $4,100 raise! (I can hear the heads of staffers exploding from here... Yeah, I know, they don't actually vote for a raise, it "happens automatically" when they don't do something about it.)

We could cover the multitude of sins that Congress has engaged in, but suffice it to say that the American people have a very low opinion of the folks who are making our laws and running our treasury dry.

That might be why we see very little effort being shown on the part of Congress to oppose the Obama administration and their trillion dollar spending spree proposal.

If Members of Congress were smart, they would all get together with their colleagues (all 535 of them) and pool that $2 million and donate it to the treasury for the purposes of reducing national debt. Sure it is a drop in the bucket, but politicians are all about making symbolic gestures...

Some Republican genius ought to come out and say that the conference should do this until there is a balanced budget...

...but there I go dreaming again...
