(COLUMBUS, OH) In light of Senator George Voinovich's decision not to seek re-election, the Ohio College Republican Federation wishes to commend Senator Voinovich's exemplary and tireless service to the state and people of Ohio.
"Senator Voinovich has a record of public service that almost no politician in the history of Ohio can match. As a former Lieutenant Governor, Mayor of Cleveland, two-term Governor, and two-term Senator, Voinovich has established himself as an icon in Ohio politics," said Ohio College Republican Chairman Jonathon Snyder.
"Senator Voinovich's record is one of success. Whether it is his turning around of Cleveland, his efforts to improve Ohio's economy, or his willingness to reach across the aisle to solve problems, all Ohioans can be proud of the hard work he did on our behalf."
Chairman Snyder also stated that holding the seat in 2010 was a top priority for Ohio's College Republicans. He stated that, "We are also extremely excited about the prospect of Rob Portman's candidacy for the U.S. Senate in 2010. Portman brings an outstanding record of Congressional service to the table, and we feel that Ohioans would benefit greatly from his depth of experience and accomplishments."
The Ohio College Republican Federation (OCRF) is the statewide body of all College Republican chapters across Ohio. currently giving support and aid to over 45 chapters. The OCRF brings together over 9,000 members and provides crucial grassroots support to Republican campaigns and organizations in Ohio, serving as the preeminent Republican youth organization in the state.
