Strickland is Open to Gambling

MSNBC / NBC4 is reporting what some of us knew about Gov. Ted Strickland long before the Keno thing: Strickland is willing to allow gambling in the state of Ohio contrary to his position taken during the campaign.

Ted Strickland wants what every governor in a term-limited state wants: a second term. He realizes that he has to actually live up to his promise to Turn Around Ohio and so far the track record isn't looking to good. So, he's getting desperate and he might be thinking that gambling is the way out.

The alternative for Strickland? Well, he has already hinted that he might like to open a T-shirt shop down in Florida...

Mark's Remarks

Well, gee, I guess Teddy Boy lost his religion, as the United Methodist Church he used to pastor in is against casinos, at least as a denomination. Gosh, so much for core principles. And of course, Matt is right. He is beginning to feel the squeeze of "why hasn't Ohio started turning around yet?" So, therefore, he is willing to do anything, including the short term gain, long term loss of gambling, to try to assauge voters. He could do something completely different, like curb wasteful spending by his director of ODOT, and also try to curb spending on pet projects. But of course, that would require effort, and since Teddy is a lib, effort is akin to cursing.
