WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement on the decision by Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) to resign as chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee:
“This is a sad day for the House of Representatives, but Mr. Rangel’s resignation as chairman is appropriate. It’s disappointing that Speaker Pelosi and Democratic leaders let this situation go on this long – especially after promising to preside over the most honest, open, and ethical Congress in history. Americans have every right to expect the highest standards of ethical conduct from their elected leaders, and they deserve better.”
