Rep. Latta Opposes Committee Jurisdiction Grab

Release:
WASHINGTON- Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement in light of recent reports that the House Natural Resources Committee is attempting to grab all Energy jurisdiction from the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

“Over the past four years, Congressional Democrats have used the Energy and Commerce Committee to pass reckless policies that have, and will continue to have, terrible consequences on our nation. With House Republicans taking the majority back for the 112th Congress, the Energy and Commerce Committee will be the epicenter for dismantling these policies. Any power grab from other committees for jurisdiction will only hinder our efforts to pass responsible legislation, specifically when dealing with energy issues. As our nation continues to lack a definitive energy plan, it is imperative that the current Committee jurisdictions remain in place so that we can immediately begin to address the nation’s energy needs.”

NOTE: Yesterday, Congressman Latta joined 18 Republicans from the Energy and Commerce Committee to send a letter to House Speaker-Elect John Boehner (R-OH) and House Majority Leader-Elect Eric Cantor (R-VA) to express their opposition to the transfer of jurisdiction among committees in the 112th Congress. The letter can be found here (PDF).
