RELEASE: Kasich Announces Appointment to the State Board of Education

COLUMBUS – Today Gov. John R. Kasich appointed Angela Thi Bennett to the State Board of Education.  Bennett’s appointment is effective immediately, filling an unexpired term which ends on Dec. 31, 2012.
 
Bennett’s family emigrated from Vietnam in 1975 and settled in East Cleveland where she attended East Cleveland public schools.  Bennett graduated from high school as a teen mother and worked her way through college, ultimately receiving her B.A., J.D. and M.B.A.  Her life experiences have led her to support public policies that ensure each child, regardless of socio-economic status, race, ethnicity, geography or special need, receive equal access to high quality education. 
 
Bennett is an attorney in private practice.  She has previously served as Director of the Department of Community Development for the City of East Cleveland and was a member of the Mayor’s Senior Management Team.  Bennett previously served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Cleveland Reads, Inc., now Starting Point., and is a member of many national, state, and local bar associations, including the Asian American Bar Association of Cleveland.
