IER Analysis: Oil and Gas Production Down on Federal Lands in FY2011

WASHINGTON D.C. -- The Institute for Energy Research released today new analysis about oil and gas production on federal lands that further demonstrates the failure of Obama administration energy policies.

According to IER's analysis of available data, oil production on federal lands declined by 11 percent in FY2011, and natural gas production on federal lands declined by 6 percent.

Meanwhile, oil production on private and state lands increased by 14 percent and natural gas production on private and state lands increased by 12 percent.

Moreover, natural gas production on federal lands in FY2011 declined by 27 percent from FY2009 levels, when it peaked at 6.82 trillion cubic feet. During the same time period, natural gas production on state and private lands increased 28 percent. IER's analysis further demonstrates that FY2011 natural gas production on federal lands was the lowest volume since 2006.
