Today in the Ohio Senate

Email:
At today’s session (1:30 pm), the Senate will consider the following legislation: Enhancing Job Creation: Last year, the Ohio General Assembly created JobsOhio, a new aggressive approach toward job creation in the state. Senate Bill 314, sponsored by State Senators Mark Wagoner (R-Ottawa Hills) and Capri Cafaro (D-Hubbard), completes the transition of the Ohio Department of Development into the new Ohio Development Services Agency (DSA), a structure to more effectively serve the needs of its customers and support the mission of JobsOhio. In addition, the bill creates TourismOhio, a tourism pilot program established to promote the state as a travel and tourism destination. It also improves access to financing for small and minority-owned businesses. The Senate will consider the following concurrent resolutions: Urge Congress to Save Jobs: More than 800 jobs are at stake if Congress and the U.S. Defense Secretary eliminate the C-27J aircraft program at the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield. Sponsored by State Senators Larry Obhof (R- Montville Township) and Kris Jordan (R- Powell), Senate Concurrent Resolution 29 formally urges Congress not to terminate the program. The C-27J is a versatile aircraft capable of filling numerous roles in support of combat and humanitarian operations. Honoring Members of Black Brigade: Senate Minority Leader Eric Kearney (D-Cincinnati) sponsored Senate Concurrent Resolution 23 to commend the Black Brigade who defended Cincinnati in 1862. The resolution designates brigade members as veterans of the American Civil War.
