Husted's latest trick is in violation of Ohio law. Specifically, Ohio Rev. Code § 3505.181(B)(6) which states that "the appropriate local election official" verifies that the proper identification is provided when casting a provisional ballot. Husted's directive puts that burden on the voter. In his new order given at 6 p.m. on Friday, "the Secretary is now ordering that county boards of election must reject provisional ballots when the identification information contained in Step 2 of the ballot affirmation form 12-B is incomplete."This is complete nonsense. Requiring that voters comply with the law in order to have their vote is not a violation of the law. Nor is the Secretary's directive that big of a deal. The voter fills out the form. You absolutely do NOT want the pollworkers filling in information for you. It is YOUR vote so it is YOUR responsibility.
Step 2 requires you to enter the last four digits of your social security number or your entire driver's license number. The third option is to show the precinct worker an additional form of ID such as your military ID card or a current utility bill.
Bottom line: Don't trust anybody with your vote. Do it yourself. And stop whining about it.
