In Local News...Archdiocese of Cincy is Guilty
The Archdiocese of Cincinnati on Thursday became the first Catholic institution in the nation to be found guilty of criminal charges for failing to report sexual abuse involving priests and children.
Although the archdiocese did not admit guilt, it entered a no-contest plea to five misdemeanor charges of failing to report a felony. The plea was an about-face for church officials who have insisted for most of the past two years that they had reported everything the law required.

Loyal readers of my personal blog will recognize this as a story that I have been railing on for quite some time. But I thought that there was finally some "national attention" that could be placed on the story. The archdiocese is the FIRST in the United States to be guilty of a crime involving the coverup of the sex scandal involving priests.Deep in this article, you will see that the church has set up a $3 million Victim's Fund, but there is a catch...yes, you guessed it, if the victim is one who has filed a lawsuit, they aren't eligible. And yes, this is your tithe money being used.
What you don't see is a genuine statement from the archbishop to release all of the information that he has. You do see a weak apology and a request for forgiveness and the chance to fix the problem. Quite frankly, the archbishop and most church officials aren't interested in what their congregations have to say and sure won't accept the course of action that most would suggest...full and total exposure of what church leadership knows, when they knew it, and what (little) they did about it.
Those of you who don't know much about me should know that I grew up Catholic. I know what I am talking about. And I've had it with the arrogance of the church. These people are not doing the work of the Lord. And it is time that the church clean house or suffer the consequences. Thou shalt not bear false witness...indeed...
Mark's Remarks
Matt, I feel your pain. No, I am not trying to be funny. I understand church hypocrisy, and it seems right now the Archidiocese is full of it. That pompous archibishop, with that sarcastic voice of his talking about "moving on." What, are the victims supposed to feel justice that the archdiocese got the slap on the wrist? I would never have accepted their plea. The statute of limitations for the specific charges ran out, but what about obstruction of justice? Those charges should have been pursued with more vigor.
One other issue. In the large cases of this abuse going on, it is mistakenly called pedophilia. That is for a reason. It is because of the liberal thought police do not want you to hear about something. Stay tuned when I blow the lid off this, from Goldberg's book Arrogance.
