Senate Blows It: Internet Tax Ban
The World Wide Web has been left vulnerable to new levies by states and local governments now free from an Internet tax moratorium Congress failed to renew before adjourning for the year.
The ban on taxes that prevents state lawmakers from imposing a utility fee much like that imposed for phone or cable TV use expired Nov. 1.
The House passed a measure on Sept. 17 to make the ban permanent, but a companion bill sponsored in the Senate by Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and George Allen, R-Va., was stalled on procedural grounds before senators left for the winter recess earlier this month.

That this has not happened yet is a political travesty and a great disservice to the American people. States will tax you so you can enjoy spam in your email if this ban isn't made permenant, mark my words. (For you locals, "Doug, write this down!")Mark's Remarks
I cannot wait to see the fun Bob Tax will have with this here in Ohio. Bob Taft is a RINO, (Republican in Name Only) and he has proven it with his big government taxing ideas. This will be another weapon for his arsenal. The next gubernatorial election cannot come soon enough.Back to the tax ban. Members of Congress, if you do not push this through upon your return, you can expect mass emailings from the public. In fact, I encourage that. Visit the websites for the House and Senate and email your rep. Maybe if we flood their boxes they will take notice. Get out the word, people, before we have to pay to receive hamster oriented enhancement tips.
