Powell Gives Brown a Well-Deserved Verbal Butt-Kicking

Via Yahoo News:

Powell fielded the assertions calmly, defending the president's judgment and his own.

But when Brown contrasted Powell's military experience to Bush's record with the National Guard, saying the president "may have been AWOL" from duty, Powell exploded.

"First of all, Mr. Brown, I won't dignify your comments about the president because you don't know what you are talking about," Powell snapped.

"I'm sorry I don't know what you mean, Mr. Secretary," Brown replied.

"You made reference to the president," Powell shot back.

Brown then repeated his understanding that Bush may have been AWOL from guard duty.

"Mr. Brown, let's not go there," Powell retorted. "Let's not go there in this hearing. If you want to have a political fight on this matter, that is very controversial, and I think it is being dealt with by the White House, fine, but let's not go there."

Matt's Chat

McAuliffe is one thing...I mean, he wasn't elected by anybody to represent anybody, but when somebody was elected to represent MY home state, they had better do so with distinction. Mr. Brown, you disgraced yourself, and worse, you disgraced our great state.

Mr. Powell, you're back in my good graces, again. Figures it would take an idiot Democrat to make that happen.

Mark's Remarks

I have my share of disagreements with Mr. Powell. However, at heart, he is an honorable and noble spirit. While some of his foreign policy assertions and beliefs I don't care for, he is a good man. He honored himself, the President, and his country with his testimony. It is about time that military folks in the Bush Admin. defended their commander in chief. Also, he did not scream and holler or get agitated (as I have in the past, see episode 3 of WMDtv), but he did it reasonably and calmly. Mr. Powell, you are an honorable man, and a man of service to his country all can be proud of.

Mr. Brown, you sir, are nothing more than a typical Dimocrap liberal out to smear and lie,and out to politicize anything merely for the political gain of your party. You Dimocraps are so hyped up on fixing your party you do not care about America's problems. You are a disgrace to your office, your state, and to its citizens. To jibe and snap with the Sec State over such things is ridiculous, when you should be concerned about the business of the day. Your messiah Bill Clinton did not serve at all, and I do not remember ANYONE on your side of the aisle questioning his ability to lead. Why is that? Could that be some HYPOCRISY? You betcha.
