Vatican Pontificates...Again
From Yahoo News:The scandal of prisoner abuses by U.S. soldiers in Iraq has dealt a bigger blow to the United States than the Sept. 11 attacks, the Vatican foreign minister told an Italian newspaper.
In an interview published Wednesday in the Rome daily La Repubblica, Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo described the abuses as "a tragic episode in the relationship with Islam" and said the scandal would fuel hatred for the West and for Christianity.
"The torture? A more serious blow to the United States than Sept. 11. Except that the blow was not inflicted by terrorists but by Americans against themselves," Lajolo was quoted as saying in La Repubblica.
Matt's Chat
Hey Archbishop, not to draw a nasty parallel here, but people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. You get to talk about inflicting damage on yourselves when the Vatican takes swift and serious action in your own abuse scandal. You know the one I'm talking about.Shut the pie hole, your eminance, your own disgrace is showing. Again.
Mark's Remarks
This is a slap in the face to all Americans! Who in the heck does this idiot pretending to be a foreign minister think he is? Photos worse than 9/11?!? It is no wonder more people are leaving this denomination and it continues to be the butt (no pun intended) of jokes around the world. When the Vatican wakes up and sanctions this blithering idiot, they will be taking the right track...Until then, shame on you, Vatican. And Matt brought up a good point, that I want to extenuate with a Bible verse (you know, that book you claim to preach but don't seem to want to practice, your eminences):
Judge not, lest ye be judged....
or
Let you without sin cast the first stone....
I see pedophilia and coverups, so I don't think ANYONE loosely associated with THAT has ANY room to talk in this matter!
Case closed!

While saying "I'm inclined to believe that" when asked if he agreed with Vatican officials who are now reviewing files and concluding that the "one-time offender may be a myth," Pilarczyk backed away from further comment.
"I don't want to say anymore, because I've got a couple of guys on the pan at home. Let me put it this way: Most bishops believe that the one-time offender doesn't exist," the archbishop said.
The reporter asks the archbishop how many cases he has over in the U.S. and he responded, "Oh, a half a dozen or so, with more still to come."

Fourteen priests are currently suspended from clerical duties but are continuing to be paid as they await a Vatican decision on whether they are removed.
Since 1950, 49 of 830 Cincinnati priests in that period, or six percent of the total population are accused of abuse by 188 victims. Those figures were released in February as part of the U.S. Conference of Bishops National Review Board audit of the church sex abuse crisis.
