Five Reasons to Vote for Schmidt and Against Hackett

Weapons of Mass Discussion supports Jean Schmidt for the OH2 Congressional seat for the following reasons (in no particular order):

  • 1) Jean Schmidt fully supports the War on Terror including the Iraq war.

  • 2) Jean Schmidt has good ideas about alternative energy and she supports the Energy plan that is being negotiated in Congress. See Project Logic for more

  • 3) Jean Schmidt is a Republican running for a position in a Republican controlled House of Representatives. She will have more opportunities to do more for the district than Paul Hackett.

  • 4) Jean Schmidt supports making the Bush tax cuts permanent. She also supports the elimination of the death tax, capital gains taxes, and serious reform of the tax code. WMD stands for fiscal conservatism and Jean Schmidt will not support raising taxes in order to reduce the deficit.

  • 5) Jean Schmidt is pro-life. Like Viking Spirit, I have no problem with abortion in the case of incest, rape, or the health of the mother (because these situations are actually quite rare - I oppose (check out the comments in that post) abortion as birth control, there are plenty of other methods that achieve that goal without killing unborn babies that could be adopted) but I'd like to see actual legislation proposed that would actually define those limitations. Democrats won't do that because they get their funding from the pro-abortion lobby. In the mean time, I prefer to err on the side of life.

  • Five reasons to vote against Paul Hackett (also in no particular order):

  • 1) Jean Schmidt isn't trying to deceive the press and the voters by promoting fake debates. Project Logic has the story.

  • 2) Jean Schmidt isn't trying to deceive voters with a misleading ad. See BizzyBlog for more on this including video of the ad in question.

  • 3) Jean Schmidt supports social security reform that includes individual accounts. Paul Hackett does not. Read more from the WMD archives here.

  • 4) Paul Hackett is bad for business (I am working on a visual representation of what I mean, but that will have to wait because it isn't finished yet.) He wants to eliminate outsourcing (bad for consumers) which could risk insourced jobs (bad for labor). See more from the WMD archives on this subject here.

  • 5) Paul Hackett has never been elected to an office before. He was appointed to the Milford City Coulncil, but relocated to Indian Hill when it came time for the election after having raised taxes a number of times.

    Mark's Remarks

Allow me to use one of Sen. Biden's memes--"it's about his JUDGGGEEEMMENT." This is an attorney who lambasted fellow lawyers in judge's chambers during depositions, and verbally attacked a witness, earning reprimands from jugdes. This is a man who knowingly ran a deceptive ad where it looks like he supports the President, even as he was out saying the President is more of a danger than Osama Bin Laden. This is a man who was appointed to help the people of Milford, but who left town so he would not have to pay the tax increases he so readily pushed and supported. I encourage the voters to look at the rapid development in Milford (especially in the I275/Milford Parkway area, which was off-limits during Hackett's time) as a sign that his departure from local government was a beautiful thing for revitalizing the economy.

Paul Hackett is trying to look like a moderate, walk like a moderate, act like a moderate. However, his record as a legislator in Milford, his careless ethical attitude in abusing witnesses, and his constant uses of "underfunding" as code for higher taxes reveals him to be the typical tax and spend liberal that we do not want representing the already overtaxed state of Ohio.
