[Republicans] have forgotten the most important rule of political survival: If you want to remain an incumbent for long, you don't jettison your principles. You act on them. This is especially true in Ohio, but I see the trend happening with Congressional Republicans as well.
What's to be done about this state of affairs? Well, in Ohio for starters, we can elect Ken Blackwell for Governor and Bill Pierce of US Senate. We need to start sending the message to the Party establishment that now is not the time to rest on laurels. Now is the time to advance the conservative agenda in Columbus and Washington.
DISCLOSURE: I am the Blog Administrator for Pierce for Senate.
Mark's Remarks
I am glad some in the category of political bigwig get it. Having seen Blugh Blewitt fall into the nomenclature of Hack, given his blind support of Miers, his support of Spector, etc., I had lost hope that the big politicos would ever buy a clue. Tony Snow is dead on. We absolutely need to get into sticking to our principles, after all, liberals lose on their principles every time. Why move away from that with which we win with?
Ken Blackwell is a good start. Also, removing the entire vestiges of the Bennett regime from the Ohio GOP would be another good move. Bennett may have helped get GOP dominance, but he also ushered in an era of corruption with Coingate and Noe. He needs to go.
I remain non-comittal in the Senate race. I like Mr. Pierce, however, I have yet to hear from Mr. Smith. Right now, given his open nature, I lean toward Mr. Pierce. He seems to understand the nature of the blogosphere, understand the issues, and seems willing to get out there. Mr. Smith and the other candidate just seem like part timers who want to get a name out.
DISCLOSURE: I am not the blog administrator for the Pierce campaign, but I did laugh myself silly when someone caused the administrator to have to redo the entire blog over the weekend.... :)
