White Stepping Down at Montgomery County GOP

From the Dayton Daily News (and a hat tip to Brian at One Oar in the Water):
State Rep. John White of Kettering said Wednesday he will step down Jan. 1 as chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Party.

White, finishing up his third year as chairman, said he wants to focus on his job as state legislator during his fourth and final term in the Ohio House, which starts next year. He will be not be able to seek re-election in 2008 because of term limits.

He said he made the decision about a year ago to step down after three years as chairman and that it was not influenced by Republican losses on Nov. 7.
Well, White's run hasn't exactly been a stellar success...at least not in this cycle. Democrats now run the county commission 3-0...

Who are the frontrunners to replace White?
Gregory Gantt

Home: Oakwood

Age: 40

Experience: Dayton attorney, 20 years of behind the scenes work for county party

Lara Mastin

Home: Washington Twp., Montgomery County

Age: 36

Experience: Chairman of J. Kenneth Blackwell's campaign for governor; challenged John White for county GOP chairmanship in 2004

Carl Wick

Home: Centerville

Age: 66

Experience: Retired NCR executive; member of state school board and co-chairman of Montgomery County Bush-Cheney campaigns in 2000 and 2004
Mastin lost to White last time out...and she went on to helm the Titanic known as the Blackwell campaign...not real "winner" material if you ask me.

Gantt or Wick look pretty good...it would come down to youth and experience...more research required (if you have an opinion on any of these folks, email me)
