Over in Merry old England, if you eat sweets, you are not going to receive healthcare. Yes, you read that right, the so-called Conservatives over in England have issued some suggestions for their socialized healthcare system.
Patients who refuse to change their unhealthy lifestyles should not be treated by the NHS, the Conservatives said today.
In a bid to ease spiralling levels of obesity and other health concerns, a Tory panel said certain treatments should be denied to patients who refuse to co-operate with health professionals and live healthier lifestyles.
And those who do manage to improve their general health by losing weight and quitting smoking, for example, would receive "Health Miles" cards.
Points earned could then be used to pay for health-related products such as gym membership and fresh vegetables.
And what treatments? Cancer? Heart? AIDs? Who decides what treatment has to do with a condition caused by an unhealthy lifestyle? Some government bureaucrat. Not you.
Isn't this frightening? You eat a candy bar at dinner, and the government finds out, and bam! no more healthcare for you. What, diabetes? Sorry, there gov, you should have not eaten that fig newton when you were six. Say what?
The sad part is, that is exactly the same type of "plan" John Edwards is talking about. But at least he isn't being as blatant and plain in what he is really meaning. The key thing with both measures is control. In both, the government has control over your life, in fact, the very essence of your life. You see, under President Edwards, you would be forced by law to go to the doctor even if you are not sick.
Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards said on Sunday that his universal health care proposal would require that Americans go to the doctor for preventive care.
"It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care," he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. "If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK."
Edwards said his mandatory health care plan would cover preventive, chronic and long-term health care. The plan would include mental health care as well as dental and vision coverage for all Americans.
"The whole idea is a continuum of care, basically from birth to death," he said.
So, folks, make sure you are eating the right foods and are doing the right things. And know that the government will be watching you. What, you want cancer treatment? Sorry, sir, you should not have walked past that smoker three years ago. Denied.
It would be even worse under Hillary. Who do you want to choose whether or not you get treatment? The government, or you? The fact of the matter, folks, is that there is not one person in this country who is refused treatment in an emergency because of income. Don't be fooled by the likes of these hucksters who talk about panaceas when they are really recipes for tyranny.
