BREAKING: Butler County GOP Executive Director Stepping Down

I just got back from a meeting of the Butler County GOP Central Committee where I was given some news to share with you all before anyone else got their grubby little hands on it. Maybe that glowing profile I did on Scott just capped his career and he decided that it just couldn't get any better than that! I kid...

Here is the official press release:
Butler County GOP Executive Director Stepping Down

The Butler County GOP's Executive Director, Scott Owens, has submitted a letter of resignation to the party effective July 1, 2008. Owens cited a recent promotion at work and time restraints as reasons for stepping down.

"It has been truly a privilege and honor to serve Butler County Republicans over the past five years," said Scott Owens. "We have worked hard to elect good candidates, and I am confident that our history of success will continue with John McCain all the way down the ticket in November."

Mr. Owens was recently promoted to a senior level management position and given new responsibilities at LNE Group, a leading Ohio government relations firm. The travel requirements for the new position would make working for the GOP difficult. "Scott has tremendous talent and is a great asset to the firm," said Lee Weingart, President of the Cleveland-based LNE Group. "He will be spending a lot of time in Columbus and Washington, DC."

Tom Ellis, Chairman of the Butler County GOP, said that Scott Owens will be missed. "Nobody worked harder for our party and candidates than Scott," said Ellis. "Everybody relied on his expertise and advice throughout the entire year, not just election seasons."

Owens said that he will most remember the friendships he made, all the good Republicans who have been elected, and the rally that the Butler County GOP hosted for George W. Bush at Voice of America in 2004. There were over 50,000 attendees who came to see President Bush.

The Butler County GOP has not yet named a new Executive Director.
Those are some mighty big shoes to be filled by somebody...

Best of luck Scott! And don't forget me when you get the good gossip... :)
