I had an opportunity to discuss the issue a bit with somebody who knows more about it than I do...
Mayor Ron is right to be happy about the deal as the City of Fairfield will make some dough off the deal. And as mayor, he's doing his job by finding additional resources for the city that doesn't cost "us" a dime...
Folks in Fairfield Township ought to be upset though as this is the beginning of the end for your "free" ride...
I hope to clarify some of this when I get a chance to speak with Mayor Ron (maybe tomorrow), but as I understand it Fairfield Township is unable to collect local taxes without establishing this "economic development district" with a city. Now a lot of good things can come from this assuming that the money goes where the politicians say it will, but I'm still not wild about the fact that the citizens of Fairfield Township are not voting on the issue.
Also unresolved is whether or not the inclusion in the deal of an agreement that the City of Fairfield will not annex any part of Fairfield Township is a good thing or not. And again, We the People aren't going to get to make an informed choice on the matter because it is going to happen before the average citizen even knows that it is an issue.
